Setting new standards for rotary steering economics

2DRS™ 2-D Rotary Steerable System

2-D Rotary Steerable System (2DRS)

The 2-D Rotary Steerable System (2DRS&tade;) is a surface controlled steering system designed to enhance the capabilities of both steerable motors and rotary drilling assemblies. The system allows the operator to control the wellbore inclination by controlling the build/drop tendencies of the bottom hole assembly.

Real-time, on demand ability to change rotary drilling mode characteristics of the bottom hole assembly enables the operator to maximize overall rates of penetration by significantly reducing oriented drilling time with steerable motor assemblies.

Benefits/Advantages

  • Reduced tripping for BHA changes
  • Improves hole cleaning in high-angle wells by agitating drilled cuttings bed with continuous drillstring rotation
  • Minimizes tortuosity therefore reducing torque and drag
  • Fine tunes the build/drop rate of rotary drilling systems
  • Enhances ROP through improved WOB

The 2DRS tool can also be utilized with a steerable motor assembly to provide both inclination and azimuthal control. 2DRS eliminates the need for sliding to correct inclination while the motor is available for directional corrections.

Applications

  • High angle/extended reach wells
  • Horizontal wells
  • Long tangent sections
  • Hold and drop well profiles

The 2DRS has been proven to be a cost effective alternative in certain applications.
