Downhole Motors
In today’s cost-conscious oil and gas environment, companies and operators are recognizing positive contributions downhole drilling motors can make to their bottom line. The application of downhole drilling motors is no longer limited to conventional drilling, but has expanded to other areas such as:
PathFinder offers highly reliable standard and performance motors worldwide. Our motors incorporate Dyna-Drill Technologies Power Sections for ultimate performance.
Our positive displacement mud motor is a rugged, reliable drilling tool. The motor converts hydraulic energy to mechanical energy which rotates the bit independently of the drillstring. the motor offers significant cost savings in demanding drilling conditions by:
PathFinder offers the latest advancements in the downhole motor technology. Our dedication to quality has been one of the main factors in the success of our drilling motors. The manufacturing of our motor components are performed by qualified and experienced vendors, many of which are ISO 9002 or API certified. The critical components of the motors are serialized to closely track their status throughout their useful life. These components are retired from services after accumulating a certain number of operating hours, regardless of their appearance and compliance with our standards. After each field run every motor is completely dissembled and cleaned to undergo a series of rigorous inspection procedures.
Our motors provide:
Using downhole motors will reduce the overall drilling cost and will increase the overall drilling efficiency.
The power section of a drill motor converts the hydraulic power of high pressure drilling fluid to mechanical power for the drill bit. A power section consists of a helical shape rotor and stator. The rotors have one less lobe than the stators. Increasing the lobe count of rotor and stator slows down and increases the torque output of a drilling motor.
In manufacturing processes perfected over five decades, Dyna-Drill power sections give superior staying power to sustain long production hours and unrivaled mud motor performance in severe drilling applications. High torque, super-slow ESX power sections recently set a world record in the Rocky Mountains, drilling 10,000 feet before requiring a replacement trip.
The industry’s most sophisticated Weingartner milling machine precisely contours rotors up to seven meters long. Rotors are 17-4 stainless steel and chrome plated for maximum wear and erosion protection. Stators incorporate NBR and HSN elastomers to meet the varying requirements of aggressive drilling conditions. Proprietary data acquisition software measures each stator profile to verify an exacting profile.
Dyna-Drill power sections can be teamed with mud motors ranging from 2-7/8" to 11-1/4"in diameter. ESX models are recommended for use with PDC and Rock Bit type drill bit. ESX Power Sections can provide speed ranges from 30 to 80 rpm and high torque ranges from 3500 to more than 11000 ft - lbs. All power section designs are fully evaluated on a 1000 hp dynamometer powered by two triplex mud pumps.
